OVERTON COUNTY CLERK PLEAS GUILTY TO FELONY CHARGE

On Thursday, June 9th, Overton County Clerk Victoria Looper appeared in the Criminal Court of Overton County and entered a plea of guilty to Violation of the Computer Act, Tennessee Code Annotated 39-14-602, which is a Class C felony. The plea deal allows her to remain in office and stipulates that she will be on supervised probation for three years with the Tennessee Department of Corrections. She will be eligible for judicial diversion at the end of the three years, in which her conviction would be expunged from the record.

The investigation had revealed that Looper, working in her capacity as a clerk, altered vehicle titles to improperly generate new registrations and titles. She then used these titles to obtain personal bank loans.

Victoria Looper easily won her re-election bid as County Clerk in the Tuesday, May 3 Overton County Primary Election. Despite the misconduct allegations released from Tennessee Comptroller’s Office during the early voting period, Looper defeated fellow Republican challenger Natalie Masters 1,784 to 1,065. With no Democrat or Independent candidate qualifying for the August General Election ballot, she will be re-elected to the office for a new 4-year term, which will begin in September.
