The Tennessee Highway Patrol and medics responded to an incident yesterday afternoon at the 293 mile marker of Interstate 40 in Putnam County. Troopers say a 2021 Freightliner driven by 63 year old Scott Howard of Buckport, Maine was heading eastbound when a pedestrian, 30 year old Samuel Ray of Kinard, Florida, suddenly ran out in front of the tractor-trailer. Ray was killed instantly. Howard sustained injuries. No charges will be filed. Traffic was backed up at the scene for over 2 hours as it was investigated.
