VIDEO LEADS TO PIPE BOMBS, MOLOTOV COCKTAILS DISCOVERY IN PUTNAM COUNTY:

An alarming video led to the arrest of a Middle Tennessee man this week, resulting in the discovery of pipe bombs, Molotov cocktails, a tampered handgun, and more than 150 rounds of ammo.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office says they received a citizen’s tip related to a video online with a man saying, “Hey ATF, let me know if this legal. Uh, a pound of Tannerite, a pipe bomb, and a wine bottle full of diesel.”  Authorities were able to identify the man as Levi Flatt.

Agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) confirmed that Flatt was attempting to make a bomb and issued a search warrant.  “Before executing the search warrant, two Special Agents with the ATF, observed Flatt enter a white Chevy work van that was on his property near Baxter,” the sheriff’s office wrote in a press release. “While surveilling the vehicle, it went into the parking lot of Putnam County Highway Department located on Veteran’s Drive, as well as a Walmart shopping center parking lot where he purchased a propane tank.”

Flatt was detained and mentioned that the explosive device in the video was in the van inside a blue cooler. A bomb squad with the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) was called to the scene.

Officials seized three pipe bombs, two Molotov cocktails, a handgun with a tampered serial number, approximately 160 rounds of ammunition, a flak jacket, and a shield. The ATF also executed a search warrant at Flatt’s known residence in Baxter.

Flatt is facing multiple charges, including prohibited weapons – explosives, and alteration of item’s permanent distinguishing numbers. He’s being held without bond.

He is expected to appear in court on Aug. 16.
