Metro Nashville Police have identified a family of five from Canada who died in a plane crash on Monday night next to I-40.

Law enforcement say 43-year-old Victor Dotsenko, his wife 39-year-old Rimma Dotsenko, and their three children, David, age 12, Adam, age 10, and Emma, age 7, died in the crash that occurred just after 7:40 p.m.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) plane crash on the side of I-40 East behind the Nashville West Shopping Center happened after engine failure.

“For reasons unknown, the aircraft descended and approached John C. Tune airport and passed overhead at 2,500 feet,” said Aaron McCarter, an air safety investigator with the NTSB. “The pilot reported he was going to pass over the airport at 2,500 feet.”

The plane crash remains under investigation by the NTSB.
