Reports state 31-year-old Justin Lee Roberts was taken into custody by Knoxville police after holding his own mother down and repeatedly beating her for hours at a home on Coker Avenue. Roberts is charged with attempted second-degree murder and especially aggravated kidnapping.

After the brutal attacks, Roberts took her to Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center yesterday. Authorities say the victim sustained severe injuries, including facial fractures, and a brain bleed. She was transferred to U.T. Medical Center for further treatment.

A preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled in court for Roberts on July 13, 2021.
