PORTION OF AIRPORT ROAD IN MORGAN COUNTY NAMED IN HONOR OF PAUL SCARBROUGH

State Senator Ken Yager and State Representative John Mark Windle came to Oakdale School today to officially name a portion of Airport Road for the late Paul Scarbrough and presenting the sign to his widow, Vera, and family.

“Paul’s faith was genuine and showed in everything he said and did. He was an outstanding public servant,” said Senator Yager.

Scarbrough born August 28, 1937 in Harriman, but spent most of his life in Morgan County, where he lived and worked.

In 1958, Paul was involved in a serious auto accident which put him in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. Despite his paralysis, Paul accomplished a great deal more than many a man in perfect health. He began teaching history at Oakdale High School in 1962 while obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education/history in 1969 and a Master of Arts degree in administration and supervision in 1973 from Tennessee Technological University. He spent 37 years in education as a teacher, school principal and superintendent of Morgan County Schools.

After his education career was over, he became a field representative for former U.S. Congressman Lincoln Davis, where he served 10 years.

He passed away in 2018.
