A proposed bill currently in the Tennessee legislature calls for tipped employees to earn minimum wage plus tips. If passed, Senate Bill 1851 would increase wages of tipped employees to $7.25 an hour plus tips. The current minimum wage for tipped workers in Tennessee is $2.13 an hour and it hasn’t changed since 1996. One reason the bill was introduced is to help tipped workers who currently face unpredictable pay and schedules.
