PUTNAM COUNTY ATTORNEY CHARGED WITH THEFT
An investigation by special agents from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, at the request of 13th Judicial District Attorney General Bryant Dunaway, led to the arrest of James Hargis, a licensed attorney born on August 11, 1991. Agents determined that Hargis allegedly withheld funds from an individual while handling a real estate transaction in his professional capacity.
On Friday, he was charged with one count of theft over $60,000. Deputies with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office arrested him and booked him into the Putnam County Jail on a $100,000 bond. As with all such cases, the charges are merely accusations, and Hargis is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
