RACIST SHOOTER GUILTY ON ALL 43 COUNTS; SENTENCING HEARING UNDERWAY

Emanuel Samson was found guilty Friday in the deadly 2017 church shooting in Antioch. And today his sentencing hearing is underway.

Samson killed one woman and wounded several others when he began shooting at the predominantly white Burnette Chapel Church of Christ during Sunday services on September 24.

He was found guilty of one count of first-degree murder, one count of civil-rights violation, one count of civil-rights intimidation, one count of reckless endangerment, seven counts of attempted first-degree murder, seven counts of felon with a deadly weapon with intent, and 24 counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Prosecutors are seeking a life sentence without possibility of parole. The district attorney was reported to have said they did not seek the death penalty out of respect to the wishes of some church members who oppose it.

The defense portrayed Samson as having a mental illness – and that formed the basis of their entire defense. They claimed the state only proved Samson was suicidal and mentally ill at the time of the crime.
