RE-DEDICATION CEREMONY SET OF BOY SCOUT MONUMENT NEXT TO ROANE/RHEA COUNTY LINE
The Society of Colonial Wars in the State of Tennessee, in association with Boy Scouts of America Troops 101 (Kingston) and 106 (Rockwood), will hold a re-dedication ceremony for the Colonial Wars/BSA Memorial Monument this Saturday (March 23, 2024) at noon Eastern.
The monument was erected in 1932 and recently refurbished.
The ceremony will remember the service and sacrifice of the Colonial Warrior and Scoutmaster James Tarwater Wright and seven boy scouts from Troop 45 (Rockwood) who died during unexpected, raging flood waters of Whites Creek in the early morning hours of March 23, 1929.
The ceremony will be held beside the James Tarwater Bridge on Highway 27, where the divided highway begins (if driving south) as it crosses Whites Creek on the Roane/Rhea County line.
The public is invited to attend.
