RED CARPET PREMIERE OF “AM RADIO” MOVIE HELD IN CROSSVILLE

A red carpet premiere of the movie “AM Radio” was held at Rocky Top 10 in Crossville last night.

The motion picture directed by Ricky Burchell tells the story of DJ Taz (Omar Gooding)

The once-famous celebrity disc jockey, DJ Taz, falls hard from his days of fortune and glory to find himself left behind in a world in which he no longer feels that he belongs.

Now employed as a late-night AM radio DJ at his friend Tony’s struggling station, the embittered Taz often uses the mic to bemoan the condition of the world he finds himself in. His anger can easily be evoked to embark on tirades against his callers for being complicit in what he understands as the problems with the world.

His outbursts over the air frequently put the station in jeopardy and push his friendship with Tony to the breaking point.

Until one day a female callers voice on the line simply says, “I understand” to Taz and begins to cut through the hard exterior of the radio personality and inspire a new listening audience around the country when their nightly conversations go viral.

The movie was filmed in Murfreesboro.

Gooding said the movie was so well written it was a perfect fit for him to be in.

Burchell told 105.7 News last night he tries to do classic storytelling where people connect with each other.

“A.M. Radio” is receiving positive reviews so far.

It is showing at the Rocky Top 10 in Crossville Friday, Saturday and Sunday (May 21-23, 2021) with showtimes of 1, 4 and 7 p.m. It will show again Thursday, May 27, 2021 at 4 and 7 p.m. central.

The next movie for Burchell was also filmed close by. “Trap City” was also shot partly in Murfreesboro but also at Cumberland River Hospital in Celina.

“Trap City” is in the editing process now then will go to the sound department. A release date for will be announced soon.

Actor Omar Gooding, who is the brother of Academy Award winning actor Cuba Gooding, Jr., stars in the movie about a rapper working for a drug kingpin, and records a song that becomes viral. His fame intensifies because of his crime, but after an attempt on his life, he faces the choice of going to prison and destroying his career or to face the dangerous situation of testifying against a dangerous crime boss who will not fail a second time.

The movie also features J.J. Presley from Crossville playing a doctor.

A purpose for shooting “Trap City” there at the hospital is to bring attention to Clay County and Celina and show the facility, that is currently closed, is much needed in the community. In any emergency, a patient will have to be transported at least 30 minutes away and that time spent could mean the difference between life and death.

If Trap City is a success, a sequel is being planned.

Another movie titled “Eating Me Up” will be filmed soon and Burchell hopes to use areas in the Upper Cumberland for scenes.

Burchell’s next project after “Eating Me Up” is titled “One More Dream” and tells the story about a kid and his battle with bullying.
