REPORT: HAMMONDS ATTEMPTS TO ABDUCT BOY 25 MILES NEAR WHERE SUMMER WELLS WENT MISSING

Kingsport police took 58-year-old Tonie Hammonds into custody after he allegedly attempted to abduct a 12-year-old.

It happened in the area of the 3,900 block of Skyland Drive last Thursday. The minor was mowing a lawn when he noticed a car pulled into the driveway. Hammonds reportedly exited the vehicle and yelled at the child.

Hammonds allegedly reached out to grab the juvenile while yelling, “come here, boy.” Hammonds then chased the child who fled through the garage and into the house. He was abruptly stopped by the child’s mother who threatened to call the police. Hammonds fled the scene.

He was found and arrested Saturday for attempted especially aggravated kidnapping, aggravated burglary, simple assault and violation of probation.

Authorities say the incident happened 25 miles northeast of where multiple agencies are currently searching for 5-year-old Summer Wells. At this time, the two cases appear to be unrelated.
