A rescue mission at Signal Mountain yesterday turned into a recovery mission after a hiker was found dead.

Signal Mountain Police and Fire Department had previously said on Facebook there was a rope rescue in progress at Signal Point.

A couple of hours later, they announced that they had found the victim of the fall, and they were deceased.

They said the victim was a 26-year-old woman who was from out of state.

Officers say her next of kin is being notified.
