RESIDENTS OF 70 KNOXVILLE APARTMENTS EVACUATED AFTER ROOF BLOWS OFF

Residents of 70 apartments in the D Building of 1100 Studio Apartments had to be evacuated early this morning after a rubber-membrane roof blew off half of the apartment’s C & D buildings.

The Knoxville Fire Department responded around 1:45 to a report of a roof collapse. No one was injured in the overnight incident.

The Knoxville Police Department, aided by municipal transport buses, aided in the evacuation of residents to the Knoxville Civic Coliseum.

The damaged D Building comprises approximately 150 units. As of 3 a.m., there was no report of compromised structural integrity to the building itself – the rubber membrane and the metal flashing that held it in place were simply blown off the top of the building.
