RETIRED BLOUNT DEPUTY, BILL BALL, PASSED AWAY MARCH 1ST
Deputy Bill Ball, a retired Blount County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) deputy, passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at the age of 66 following an illness, as announced by Sheriff James Lee Berrong. Ball began his career with the Sheriff’s Office in 1996 as a Corrections deputy, advancing to corporal in 2004 and later earning his P.O.S.T. certification after graduating from the Knox County Regional Law Enforcement Academy in 2006.
He was promoted to sergeant in 2011 and transitioned to Court Services in 2012, where he served as a court officer until retiring in 2021. During his tenure in corrections, he also commanded the Corrections Emergency Response Team (CERT). A U.S. Marine veteran, Ball was remembered by Sheriff Berrong for his servant’s heart, strong work ethic, positive attitude, and dedicated service to both his community and nation.
He is survived by his wife Linda, son John, daughter Leigh Ann, grandson Jaylen, and many other family members and friends.
A visitation will be held at Smith Trinity Chapel in Maryville, Tennessee, on Friday, March 13, from 5 to 7 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life service. The community is asked to keep his loved ones in their prayers during this time of mourning. Rest in peace, Bill.
