Rhea County authorities say a man has been arrested after he allegedly robbed and severely beat a woman in her 70’s with a golf club. Officers took 33-year-old Robert Ellis, Jr. into custody. The report indicates Ellis took more than $1,000 from the victim, knocked her unconscious, put the woman in her own car, and drove off with her in it. When he abandoned the car, the victim was able to drive herself to Rhea Medical Center. She was later transported to Erlanger Medical Center for treatment. Ellis is charged with especially aggravated robbery, aggravated kidnapping and aggravated assault.
