ROANE STATE GRADUATION SET FOR MAY 3-4

Roane State Community College will conduct commencement ceremonies this Friday and Saturday, May 3 and 4, in the gym on the Roane County campus in Harriman.

There will be two graduation ceremonies on Friday – one at 2 p.m. and the other at 7 p.m. Saturday’s ceremony begins at 10 a.m.

Visitors for each ceremony are asked to arrive early. When the gymnasium reaches capacity, safety requirements call for additional visitors to be directed to overflow rooms in the Dunbar Building, to watch a live broadcast of the ceremonies.

Friday’s 2 p.m. ceremony will encompass the following degree and certificate programs:

  • Associate of Applied Science: Health Sciences degrees including, Dental Hygiene, Health Information Management, Health Sciences, Medical Informatics, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Opticianry, Physical Therapist Assistant, Radiologic Technology, Respiratory Therapy, and Surgical Technology.
  • Health Science Certificates including Advanced Emergency Medical Technician, Emergency Medical Technician, Healthcare Documentation Specialist, Massage Therapy, Medical Coding, Paramedic, Pharmacy Technician, and Polysomnography.

David Bunch, Chief Administrative Officer and President of Cumberland Medical Center in Crossville, will be the speaker for the Friday-afternoon ceremony.

The Friday-evening graduation is for the following degree and certificate programs:

  • Associate of Applied Science in Nursing
  • Associate of Applied Science degrees including Business, Computer Information Technology, Contemporary Management, Criminal Justice, Early Childhood Education, Environmental Health Technology, General Technology, Geographic Information Systems, Mechatronics, Paralegal Studies
  • Certificates including Computer Information Technology, Early Childhood Education, Geographic Information Systems, and Mechatronics
  • Middle College Associate of Science Degrees

Former Roane State women’s basketball coach Jim Davis, whose decorated career included stops at Clemson University, the WNBA and additional colleges, will be the commencement speaker Friday evening.

The Saturday commencement exercises will be for the Associate of Arts, Associate of Fine Arts, Associate of Science, and Associate of Science in Teaching degrees.

Former Roane State women’s basketball coach Andy Landers, one of the sport’s all-time winningest coaches, will speak at the Saturday morning ceremony.

Davis, Landers and Roane State’s 1984 national champion women’s basketball team will be inducted into the newly established Roane State Athletics Hall of Fame Friday, May 3, at 3:15 p.m. Eastern Time, in the Raider Room of the Vann Student Center in the Dunbar Building.

Graduation photographs will be available for purchase. Graduates will have a photo taken on stage as they shake hands with Roane State President Dr. Chris Whaley and as they return to their seats. Soon after the ceremony, graduates may view and order photos at www.gradimages.com.
