ROCKWOOD CITY COUNCIL AIMS TO BUILD WALKING TRAIL TO ROCKWOOD MARINA

The Rockwood City Council is set to hold its monthly meeting tonight, and one of the items on the agenda concerns applying for a recreational trail Grant through the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation with the intent of connecting Tom Fuller Park to the Rockwood Marina and RV resort.
From Rockwood City Administrator Becky Ruppe:
“We are applying for a grant that would build a walking trail along the lake between Tom Fuller Park and the new Marina & RV resort. The marina rents bicycles that users can ride from the lake to downtown via sidewalks and paved trails.
Currently, we have a trail that starts at Tom Fuller and the stretch of road between Tom Fuller and the Marina is not safe for bicycle riders or walkers to travel.
The new trail would enable safe travel by providing a dedicated space for pedestrians and cyclists to join our current greenway. It further would allow RV and Marina visitors to attend events going on at Tom Fuller without having to drive by car, promote more outdoor activity, and enhance accessibility for all members of our community, including those with a handicap. It is a three-year grant from start to finish but we would attempt to get it done much sooner if awarded.
The marina/resort is doing well. Reservations at growing and they are already showing some repeat business. The Project was selected to be showcased at the East TN/Middle TN Tourism Conference on March 7, 20205. We are excited.”
