Ronney Ivan Stephens, 76

Ronney Ivan Stephens, age 76, of Decatur, after a 12-year battle with cancer passed away surrounded by his loving family on May 18, 2026.

He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, cherished by his family and friends. He proudly served his country in the United States Army.

He was a man of strong faith, deeply rooted in the Baptist tradition. He engaged in daily Bible study with Shepherd’s Chapel and participated in Sunday studies at Graceway Chapel, reflecting his commitment to his spiritual journey and his community.

He lived life with a tackle box in one hand and race day on the TV every Sunday. Whether chasing bass at sunrise or cheering through the final lap, he found joy in the simple things done passionately.

Some of the earliest memories were made at the go kart track beside his dad, chasing checkered flags together. Racing was never just a sport to him; it was time spent with his father, lesson by lesson and lap by lap.

His yellow 1938 Chevrolet Coupe Deluxe wasn’t just a car – it was part of his story, carrying him through years of memories, conversations, and backroad adventures.

He is preceded in death by his father, Ivan Stephens; an infant son; several aunts and uncles.

He is survived by his mother, Ruth Brown; loving wife of 12 years, Sharon Stephens; son, Allen (Emily) Stephens; grandchildren, Danielle, Bridgette, Derek, Camille, and Ivan Stephens; great-grandchildren, Phoebe Ritchie, Lux Ritchie, Ivy Brooks, Elijah Brooks; sisters, Rita Stephens (Dan Buis), Carol Stephens Arnett; nephews, Lance Buis, Ricky (Brandy) Arnett, Travis (Melody) Arnett; nieces, Jaleigha Buis, Amber Arnett, Great nephews, Chase Buis, Dylan McKeehan, River Arnett; great niece, Riley Buis; step-daughter, son-in-law, and their daughter, Alishea and David Hixson and Abigail Hixson; sister-in-law, Mary Colbaugh (Donny Smith); brother-in-law, Rick (Dianne) Elder, Dan (Mitzi) Elder, Lonny (Suzanne) Elder; several nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
