Doyle Fugate, age 76, of Ten Mile, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.
Doyle was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. He lived his entire life in this close-knit community, where he was known and respected by many.
Doyle proudly served as a law enforcement officer for over 20 year with the Meigs County Sheriff’s Office, where he exemplified a servant’s heart dedicated to the safety and well-being of his fellow citizens. His career was marked by a passion for public service for over 50 years in Meigs County, and he also held licenses as an electrician and plumber, showcasing his versatility and dedication to his work. In addition to his law enforcement duties, Doyle drove a school bus, earning the trust and admiration of countless children and parents alike.
His commitment to his community extended beyond his professional career; he was a devoted member of the Pentecostal faith, demonstrating his beliefs through acts of kindness and service.
An avid outdoorsman, Doyle enjoyed fishing and hunting, finding peace and joy in the natural beauty of Tennessee’s landscapes. He cherished the times spent with family and friends, often sharing stories of his adventures in the great outdoors.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lewis Andy and Christine Fugate; siblings, James Fugate, Carol Ann Fugate; mother-in-law, Pauline Waller; nephew, Kevin Waller; brother-in-laws, Scott Waller, Sam Smith; sisters-in-law, Teresa Waller, Patsy (Ernie) Hickman, Laura Waller.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Shirley Fugate; children, Michelle (Douglas) Riedel, Dusty (Amy) Fugate; grandchildren, Douglas Scott III, Alysha Faith, and Colton Ethan Doyle Riedel, Amber Shyanne and Grace Hunter Lee Fugate; great-grandchildren, Audrey, Addie, and Luna Riedel; father-in-law, Lawrence Waller; several brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews, other extended family and a host of friends. He is also survived by his second family at the Sheriff’s department and his family at the Church of Jesus Christ.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2026 in the chapel of Decatur Funeral Home & Cremation Services with the Rev. Lawrence Waller officiating. Interment will follow in the Maple Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Ten Mile.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m- 2 p.m., prior to the service.
