The overturned propane truck has been uprighted, and product transfer to another truck has begun. The evacuation order has been lifted, but E. Emory Road will remain closed for possibly another 2 hours. We will provide an update when open.
Thanks for your continued patience as we ensure our community is safe.
  • ORIGINAL STORY:
“This morning at approximately 930am, Rural Metro Fire responded to a reported overturned propane truck in the 9400 block of East Emory Road. The driver escaped with no injuries, but the propane began to vent and caught Fire. A 1 mile evacuation order was ordered as crews secured enough water to keep the tank cool enough to avoid a BLEVE, which would have been catastrophic for our community. The valve allowing the gas to escape was shut off, thus putting the fire out. The evacuation order of 1 mile will remain in effect, and E. Emory will be closed while the propane is off loaded to another truck for the safety of our community. Great work by our partners in emergency services, KCSO, and THP assisting with the evacuation and road detours.
  • Please be cautious of information about this scene from sources other than Rural Metro Fire.
  • Crews will remain on the scene until the scene, and our community is deemed safe. Thank you for your patience.”
