SCAMS CONTINUE TO TARGET SENIOR CITIZENS IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY

Scammers continue to target senior citizens in Cumberland County.

The sheriff’s office took a report Sunday from a citizen in her 80s.

She was recently using her computer when an alarm sounded. A phone number appeared on her screen. She called the number.

The person identified himself as “Jack Miller” from Microsoft.

The victim stated her computer worked fine after she spoke with Miller.

She got another phone call from a man claiming to be “Alex Parker” who told her he was a detective with a security service company. Parker advised her to secure her funds. Parker told her she needed to wire him $35,000.

She sent the money as instructed to Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) Limited in late September.

She received another call last Friday from Parker requesting another $45,000. The victim submitted the wire transfer but contacted her credit union to stop the transaction.

The victim was unsure if she gave the caller any personal or banking information to the callers.

It is a popular scam involving elderly victims.

Law enforcement reminds everyone, do not give out personal information to anyone or any company you are not familiar with.
