SCHOOL BUILDING AND GROUNDS COMMITTEE REVIEW PROJECTS FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS

The Cumberland County Board of Education Committee met yesterday and reviewed four different projects for elementary schools.

The first is for Crab Orchard Elementary School for a new playground. The proposal calls for not only a new playground for students but fencing, mulch and a concrete basketball pad. The projected cost is in the area of $5,000 to $10,000. The Fairfield Glade Rotary Club donated $2,830 towards the project with several fundraisers coming up to assist with the remainder of the cost. The second project calls for a half mile walking trail behind Pleasant Hill Elementary School. The trail would be 36 inches wide and would go around the perimeter of the football field and adjoining playground. The estimated cost is $3,000. Maintenance would outline the trail and as funds come in by way of donations or grants, the trail will be constructed.

The third project is very similar to the second but this “Pioneer Trail” would go in behind Pine View School. The dirt walking trail would be a half mile long and its estimated cost is $3,000. Maintenance would outline the trail and as funds come in by way of donations or grants, the trail will be constructed.

The final project involves the expansion of the “Patriot Garden” at North Cumberland Elementary School. The estimated cost would be $400 and would be covered by a grant from Action for Healthy Kids.

All four projects will come before the full Cumberland County School Board for their consideration and possible approval at their meeting January 23, 2020.
