SCOTT COUNTY DETECTIVE INDICTED ON INSURANCE FRAUD CHARGES AFTER ARSON INVESTIGATION

A former Scott County detective has been indicted on charges of insurance fraud following an investigation by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

In December 2024, a vehicle fire occurred in Scott County. TBI special agents determined the fire was intentionally set and identified the vehicle’s owner, Daniel Garrett (born December 26, 1982), as the person responsible for starting it. At the time of the incident, Garrett was employed as a detective with the Scott County Sheriff’s Office.

On April 17, 2026, the Scott County Grand Jury returned indictments charging Garrett with one count of Setting Fire to Personal Property and one count of False or Fraudulent Insurance Claim. He was arrested and booked into the Scott County Jail on a $25,000 bond.

As with all such cases, the charges and allegations are merely accusations. Garrett is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
