ORIGINAL STORY:
A significant vehicle fire on Interstate 40 Eastbound in Roane County has resulted in a total closure of all eastbound lanes as of 2:15 PM ET today, April 21, 2026. The incident is located near mile marker 352, which corresponds with the Kingston exit.
Emergency responders, including the Tennessee Highway Patrol and local fire crews, are currently on the scene to manage the blaze and secure the area.
Motorists traveling toward Knoxville should expect substantial traffic congestion and are urged to seek alternate routes to avoid the backup.
Since Highway 70 is backed as well due to being shut down for bridge repairs, we recommend getting off I-40 at Harriman and going to Oak Ridge to get back onto I-40.
