SKULL FOUND ON FIREPLACE MANTLE IN MORGAN COUNTY IDENTIFIED

A skull found in Morgan County and later put on a fireplace mantle has been identified as Junior Willie McCann. The person in possession of it said it was found in March 2019 by an individual in the Gobey area. A DNA test by the Knox County Regional Forensics Center and the U.T. Department of Anthropology confirmed it was McCann who was missing since September 2012. Sheriff Wayne Potter asks anyone with information related to McGann’s death or others who remain missing to call his office at (423) 346-6262.

There are five others currently listed as missing in Morgan County:

KEVIN HAMBY – last seen leaving his home on Rich Road in Lancing on November 14, 2017. He was operating a Polaris Razor when he left the residence.

ROY WELCH – reported missing from his home on Brown Road in Oakdale in November 2016. Family members states at that time they had not heard from him in more than a year.

SAMUEL BRISCOE JUSTICE – reported missing from his home in Oakdale on January 10, 2005. In February 2009, Dennis Ray Brock pled guilty to voluntary manslaughter of Justice and received a 10 year sentence. The case remains open because the body of the victim has not been located,

FREDDIE LEE JONES – reported missing after his home burned in November 1993.

JAMES MCGLOTHIN – last seen October 30, 1989 near Lenoir City. He had been working in Blount County and was reportedly headed to a bank in Oliver Springs. He is a resident of Coalfield.
