PILOT IDENTIFIED IN FATAL CRASH

Update: The pilot was identified as 62-year-old Dr. Christopher Wiltcher. Wiltcher was a traveling physician and recently worked at Cookeville Regional Medical Center for about eight months. His coworkers there said they are devastated by his death. Wiltcher crashed in Brentwood while on his way to get his plane serviced. The NTSB said Wiltcher was traveling from Springfield to Smyrna to upgrade his instrument panel.
Wiltcher’s family said he was an OB/GYN with more than 30 years of experience.
He recently worked with Hedgecoth and Vaughn at Cookeville Regional.

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – The Brentwood Police Department responded to an aircraft that had crashed onto the roadway Tuesday morning. The plane crashed around 7:30 a.m. off Old Smyrna Road and Banbury Crossing.
Brentwood Police Department confirmed one person is dead. The area will be closed from Jones Parkway to Edmondson Pike to traffic for members of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are at the scene to investigate the incident.
The FAA reported the plane was a single-engine Piper PA-32 and the pilot was flying alone. The identity of the pilot is unknown at this time.
The road will remain closed until the wreckage is cleared and the investigation concludes.
