Roane County’s financial management continues to earn rave reviews from Standard & Poor’s. The economy is a different story, however.

The credit rating agency calls Roane County’s economy weak and anchored by government jobs associated with the Oak Ridge National Laboratory and TVA.

“We consider the county’s economy weak,” the report said.

“Roane County, with an estimated population of 52,491, is located in the Knoxville MSA (metropolitan statistical area), which we consider to be broad and diverse.”
