SQUIRREL HUNTING SEASON BEGINS THIS SATURDAY
Tennessee’s 2026 spring squirrel hunting season for gray, fox, and red squirrels opens on Saturday, May 9, and runs through Sunday, June 14.
The daily bag limit is 10 squirrels, the same as during the fall/winter season that runs from late August through March 15. Of the five tree squirrel species found in the state, the southern and northern flying squirrels are protected and may not be hunted; these are small, nocturnal animals that are rarely seen.
Hunters should check regulations for individual Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs), as some have specific rules regarding allowed hunting devices. Additional details are available in the 2025-26 Tennessee Hunting and Trapping Guide on the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) website at tnwildlife.org, at TWRA regional offices, or at locations that sell hunting and fishing licenses.
