The Tennessee Department of Agriculture Division of Forestry has updated the public-use maps for Bledsoe State Forest to curb severe environmental damage and road erosion caused by off-highway vehicles. The revisions restrict motorized traffic on roughly 17 miles of roads and trails, shifting them to nonmotorized use like hiking, biking, and horseback riding, while leaving about 15.5 miles open to motorized vehicles. Officials noted that unauthorized OHV use had repeatedly ruined recent repairs, blocked emergency vehicles, and caused soil erosion threatening local waterways. Violators driving around barricades face Class A misdemeanors or potential felony vandalism charges depending on the severity of the damage.
