STOLEN GOLF CART AND UTILITY TRAILER RECOVERED BY MONROE COUNTY DETECTIVES
A pair of local theft investigations came to a successful conclusion this week after vigilant Monroe County Sheriff’s Office detectives spotted two stolen items hidden in plain sight.
The investigation began on July 6, 2026, when deputies responded to a home on Old Sweetwater Road regarding a missing golf cart. The owner reported that the inoperable cart—valued at $1,800—and an attached $140 chemical sprayer had been taken from the property overnight. During the initial scene investigation, officers noted disturbed property around the area and recovered a broken taillight lens left behind by the suspect. Crucially, the owner was able to provide detectives with the golf cart’s Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
The breakthrough in the case came just one day later. On July 7, a Monroe County detective following up on leads spotted the missing golf cart parked at a residence on Parris Road. To the detective’s surprise, the cart was sitting directly on top of a bright blue 6-by-8 utility trailer.
Investigators quickly linked the trailer to an earlier, unsolved theft reported on Ashmore Street on May 29, 2026.
Both the golf cart and the $500 utility trailer were safely recovered and returned to their respective owners. Sheriff’s Office officials commended the deputies and detectives involved, noting that their keen attention to detail made the double recovery possible.
The case remains under active investigation. Anyone with information regarding either theft is encouraged to contact the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division at (423) 442-3911.
