On July 4, 2025, a fireworks explosion occurred on a barge at Boone Lake Marina in Piney Flats, Sullivan County, Tennessee, injuring two people with minor injuries. The victims were transported to local hospitals.

The incident, captured on video by multiple accounts on Facebook, showed fireworks launching from the barge before detonating simultaneously, completely destroying the vessel. The fire was extinguished, and the investigation, initially handled by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) and Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, has been turned over to the U.S. Coast Guard, as the incident involved a commercial vessel.
