SUNNY WEDNESDAY
Wednesday is going to be sunny and cold with the temperature not getting much above 40 degrees and then dropping to near 20 Wednesday night. The warming Trend starts Thursday as we climb above 50 degrees and 60 degrees or above on Friday and Saturday. We are officially into winter now but it sure will not feel like it on Christmas Day. The national high temperature on Tuesday was 82 at Vero Beach Florida and the low was 15 below zero at Minot North Dakota. Tuesday also brought an EF-1 tornado to Fort Myers Florida and a storm with wind gusts to 77 mph at Punta Gorda Florida.
On Christmas day 1969 the residents of Cumberland County were greeted by a heavy, wet snow falling when they woke up and it would total 7 inches. We had bitter-cold gripping the area in 1983 with a high of 8 above and a low of 7 below zero, many cars would not start making it difficult to visit family. On Christmas Day 1998 we were recovering from a major ice storm on the 23rd and 24th and many people were still without power and there was Heavy damage to trees and power lines from one inch of ice that accumulated.
On the flip side, we have celebrated the holiday with some very mild weather in the past. Christmas Day 2015 was a strange one as we had over two and a half inches of rain and a high of 68 degrees. Last year we had snow showers and a high of only 21 degrees and a low of 10.
