A 17-year-old was charged with first-degree felony murder and aggravated abuse of a vulnerable adult after the death of Steven Reed, 41, in Sweetwater.

On June 12, 2025, Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a 911 call about an assault on Forkners Chapel Road, finding Reed injured outside his home. He was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, where he died on June 13.

The teenager was arrested later that evening and held at the Knox County Juvenile Justice Center.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
