T.H.P. TROOPER CHARGED WITH AGGRAVATED ASSAULT IN GRUNDY COUNTY
An investigation by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) has led to the arrest of off-duty Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper Timothy Johnson (DOB 9/20/1968). The probe began on June 2nd at the request of 12th Judicial District Attorney General Courtney Lynch, following an incident near Tracy City where Johnson’s personal vehicle was involved in a crash, and the other driver fled the scene.
Johnson allegedly pursued the fleeing driver, repeatedly attempted to ram the vehicle, and fired his duty weapon, striking the other car. The chase concluded when the fleeing victim lost control and crashed in the 1400 block of US-41; fortunately, no injuries from gunfire were reported.
On Tuesday, TBI agents secured warrants charging Johnson with three counts of Aggravated Assault, and he was subsequently booked into the Grundy County Jail on a $30,000 bond. Per standard legal procedure, these charges are strictly accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
