T.H.P. TROOPER IN NASHVILLE UNDER INVESTIGATION

WSMV reports that an off-duty Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) trooper, identified as Sgt. DeWunya Topps, is under internal investigation following a video that shows him slamming a man to the ground in Nashville. The incident, captured on social media, reportedly occurred after the man kicked a car belonging to Topps, who was in uniform at the time.
In the video, Topps is seen approaching the man, who had his hands raised, before forcefully throwing him to the ground and standing over him as they appeared to argue. Topps then walked away, and a Metro Nashville Police Department car arrived, though MNPD stated they were not involved. The THP confirmed an investigation into the incident but did not disclose the trooper’s identity.
Jack Byrd, CEO of Solaren Risk Management, where Topps was working at the time, acknowledged the incident and noted it is under review by both THP and Solaren’s internal team.
This incident follows prior WSMV4 Investigates reports on Solaren’s off-duty security team, accused of operating as a “shadow police force” to clear homeless individuals from downtown Nashville at the behest of private companies.
The investigation remains ongoing.
