TBI RELEASES STATEMENT ON OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING IN BRADLEY COUNTY

The TBI has released a statement concerning an officer-involved shooting in Bradley County Saturday morning:

At the request of 10th District Attorney General Stephen Crump, TBI Agents are investigating the circumstances that led to an officer-involved shooting in Bradley County.

At approximately 12:05 a.m. this morning, deputies from the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office responded to 2865 McDaris Circle SE on a call of an unwanted armed subject at a home.

While deputies were in route, the call was updated to a stabbing incident.

Preliminary information indicates, when deputies arrived they tried to subdue the man who was still armed with a knife by deploying a taser.

Reports from the scene indicate when that was unsuccessful in subduing the individual, a deputy fired at the subject, striking him.

The individual was pronounced deceased at the scene. He has been identified as Manuel Charles Carter.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation, as TBI Agents continue to work to gather any and all relevant interviews and evidence.

As with any case, TBI’s investigative findings will be shared with the District Attorney General throughout the process for his review.

As is our policy, the TBI does not identify the officers involved in these types of incidents and instead refers questions of that nature to the respective department.
