Tennessee Department of Transportation employees David Kirk and Freddy Atkinson assisted with a crash on Highway 127 in Bledsoe County. A paramedic on his way home from work was involved in a vehicle accident. The car came to rest in a creek bed off the roadway trapping the motorist inside in frigid temperatures. Kirk and Atkinson  drove up on the crash scene and immediately assisted with lifesaving measures to the critically injured driver. Kirk used the coat he was wearing to help keep the driver from going into shock. Atkinson assisted with directing emergency personnel to the scene. TDOT says Kirk and Atkinson went above and beyond their call of duty to save a man’s life. The identity of the driver was not initially released.
