TENN. TECH ALUM JAKE HOOT RETURNS TO THE VOICE IN ALL-STAR BATTLE OF CHAMPIONS

Jake Hoot, a Tennessee Tech University alumnus and country music artist, is returning to the national stage as a competitor on NBC’s “The Voice: Battle of Champions” during the show’s 29th season. The former Golden Eagle football player first gained widespread fame by winning season 17 of “The Voice” in 2019.

Born to missionary parents, Hoot spent much of his childhood in the Dominican Republic (after a brief time in Haiti), where he was homeschooled and learned Spanish by playing in the streets with local children. He credits his parents’ selfless service as a key influence he now passes on to his own daughters.

Hoot later returned to Tennessee, choosing Tennessee Tech in Cookeville as the ideal fit for both academics and football, where he walked on to the team. He has often spoken about how the discipline from playing college football and maintaining strong grades has carried over into his music career, teaching him the value of hard work even when no one is watching.

During his time on “The Voice,” Hoot worked closely with coach Kelly Clarkson, whom he describes as genuine, protective, and kind, an experience that significantly boosted his confidence as a performer.

After his victory, Hoot returned to campus for a sold-out concert and has maintained strong ties to Tennessee Tech, frequently performing there, supporting local causes, and engaging with students. In 2020, he received the university’s Outstanding Young Alumnus Award for his achievements and ongoing connection to his alma mater.

“The Voice: Battle of Champions” premieres Monday, February 23, at 8 p.m. CST on NBC. For more on Hoot and his projects, visit www.jakehoot.com.
