TENNESSEE BEGINS USING ELECTRONIC CARD SYSTEM FOR WIC BENEFITS
The Women, Infants & Children Program in Tennessee has converted to electronic debit card-style payments.
The State Department of Health says the WIC program will now enable beneficiaries to use debit cards instead of paper vouchers for the purchase of WIC-approved food items.
The WIC cards may be used at any of the nearly 800 WIC-authorized stores statewide.
WIC provides supplemental food assistance to low-income pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding women, their infants and children up to age 5. Each month, more than 125,000 Tennessee residents receive WIC benefits.
