TENNESSEE FOOD SHORTAGES AND RAGING INFLATION

The American economy has been experiencing raging inflation and economic instability.

Not only has Covid-19 had a huge impact on the food shortages along with the Ukrainian-Russian situation, but food safety concerns have developed in the United States, especially so in Tennessee. According to the US Department of Agriculture’s Economic Research Service, food shortages have been caused by conflict and sickness. Because of the current world situation, food scarcity is not uncommon in Tennessee.  According to a 2021 report on food insecurity data in the United States completed by America’s Health Rankings, the state of Tennessee has a significant rate of food insecurity across the state. Food insecurity is the state of being without reliable access to a sufficient quantity of affordable, nutritious food. Even though Tennessee is not part of the 10 states that have the highest rate of food insecurity, they still have a 12.5% rate.

During the last five years, food prices have risen substantially in the United States all due to inflation. There has been even greater controversy in the food business within the last three years because of supply chain issues, postponed crop yields, and wage cost interruptions all generated by the Covid-19.  Factors that led to the cost increase are the Covid-19 epidemic, rising production prices, and the Ukrainian-Russian confrontation.
