TENNESSEE GOVERNOR BILL LEE PROPOSES LARGEST RAISE FOR TEACHERS IN STATE HISTORY

Tennessee Governor Bill Lee said last night he is proposing the largest investment in K-12 teacher salaries in state history. Lee is calling for an additional $117 million in K-12 teacher salaries, which would be the largest investment in teacher pay in Tennessee history. The starting minimum annual salary for teachers in Tennessee would increase from $36,000 to $40,000 over the next two years.

In an effort to combat mental health challenges in schools, the governor wants to create a $250 million mental health trust fund for K-12 students to place mental health support services in schools.

Before his State of the State speech last night, Governor Lee offer special congratulations to Cameron Sexton from Cumberland County on being selected Speaker of the House.
