State troopers are mourning the loss of a beloved sergeant who died Thursday from an off-duty medical episode.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) says Sgt. Randall Massengill was a member of the force’s Critical Incident Response Team. He passed away this week after a brief hospital stay following a medical incident that happened while he was off duty.

“Sgt. Massengill was a great Trooper and was respected by all, he served his state with dignity,” THP wrote.

During his time with THP, Massengill “helped countless families find the justice they deserved due to his tireless efforts reconstructing numerous crashes.”
