TENNESSEE INCLUDED IN RECALL OF RADIOACTIVE CONTAMINATED SHRIMP

AquaStar (USA) Corp., based in Seattle, voluntarily recalled nearly 85,000 bags of frozen shrimp sold at Kroger and affiliated grocery chains, such as Ralphs, Fred Meyer, Fry’s, Smith’s, Food 4 Less, and Mariano’s, due to potential contamination with Cesium-137, a radioactive isotope that may increase cancer risk with prolonged exposure.

The recall, announced on September 19, 2025, follows an FDA investigation into Indonesian seafood processor PT. Bahari Makmur Sejati after detecting Cesium-137 in its shrimp shipments, though no contaminated products have been sold in the U.S. The affected products, distributed between June 12 and September 17 across 34 states—Alaska, Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Nevada, Ohio, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, West Virginia, and Wyoming—include Kroger Raw Colossal EZ Peel Shrimp, Kroger Mercado Cooked Medium Peeled Tail-Off Shrimp, and AquaStar Raw Peeled Tail-on Shrimp Skewers, with “Best If Used By” dates in 2027.

No illnesses have been reported, but customers should not consume the shrimp and are advised to return it for a full refund. This recall follows a similar August 2025 recall of Walmart’s Great Value shrimp. For inquiries, contact AquaStar at 1-800-331-3440.
