THP RELEASES ACCIDENT REPORT INVOLVING PUTNAM CO. DEPUTY

The Tennessee Highway Patrol released a preliminary accident report this afternoon involving a Putnam County deputy. The accident took place on 12th Street and Stadium Lane in Cookeville just before 5 p.m. yesterday. Troopers say a 2007 Chevy Silverado driven by 19-year-old Blake Jerry Metzgar of Cookeville was traveling west on 12th Street when he came upon a Putnam County Sheriff Department cruiser operated by 38-year-old Deputy Chris Lynn of Gainesboro. The report states Lynn was responding to an emergency call with the lights and sirens of the cruiser activated. Metzgar attempted to turn onto Stadium Drive and went into the path of Lynn. The two vehicles collided with the Silverado coming to rest on a sidewalk and the deputy cruiser came to a stop after hitting a concrete light pole. The accident remains under investigation. Deputy Lynn was last listed in critical condition last night at an area trauma center.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office has created a fundraiser to raise support for Deputy Chris Lynn and his family as he continues to undergo multiple surgeries. Deputy Lynn was critically injured in a motor vehicle crash while responding to an emergency call. Deputy Lynn is currently in the Intensive Care Unit at Vanderbilt Medical Center. Due to the severity of his injuries, Deputy Lynn is facing months of rehabilitation and numerous surgeries.

Sheriff Farris has been working with local community leaders including the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge # 10, located in Cookeville, and the Bank of Putnam County to establish an account that friends, family and the Putnam County community can make financial donations to. All funds raised will go directly to Deputy Lynn’s family to be used for medical, travel and lodging expenses while they aid him in his recovery.

With the recent merger between the Bank of Putnam County and Citizen’s First Bank, donations will be accepted at any of the Bank of Putnam County 19 locations in 9 counties. All donations should be made out to the following:

Bank of Putnam County
Chris Lynn Benefit
Account #30358766

Sheriff Eddie Farris and all of the staff at the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office want Deputy Lynn and his family to know that we are here for them and will support them in any way possible during this time of uncertainty.

“Everyone here is family, and when someone in the family needs help, you help them in any way possible,” said Sheriff Farris. “We want to provide Deputy Lynn’s family the support and financial resources they need so that their focus remains on him and his recovery. He has a long road ahead of him, but with the strength of his family and our community, we are confident that we will see him patrolling the streets of Putnam County again.”
