THREE SENT TO TRAUMA CENTER FOLLOWING MULTI-VEHICLE ACCIDENT ON I-40 IN JEFFERSON COUNTY

Medics and law enforcement in Jefferson County responded to a multi-vehicle accident on I-40 in Jefferson County last night.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol said a bus driver, 73-year-old Maurice Saleeby of Conway, South Carolina, was airlifted to U.T. Medical Center. Troopers added 40-year-old Elliot Perkins and 30-year-old Cassie Perkins, both also from Conway, South Carolina, were transported by ambulance to U.T. Medical Center.

Authorities say 15 vehicles were involved in a crash, which sparked six other crashes along I-40 between the 412 and 417 mile marker. This is within 10 miles of a multi-vehicle fatal crash in Sevier County this past weekend.

The accident report states traffic was stopped on I-40 because of a previous crash. Saleeby approached the accident scene and was unable to stop. He took evasive action but sideswiped the vehicle in front of him and another vehicle before going off the side of the road.
