THREE THEFTS INVOLVING VEHICLES IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office reports three thefts involving motor vehicles over the past couple of days.
–
The first theft took place on Monday when Deputy Nicholas Matheus spoke to a man at the Cumberland County Justice Center about items that were stolen from his bus on Brown Creek Road. The man said he didn’t know who stole his property, but he knew the theft happened while on his sister’s property.
The stolen items were a tow dolly valued at $400 and a carburetor valued at $800.

The next day at 1:00 p.m. Deputy Matheus received a call from a Crossville woman regarding her ‘broken down’ 2005 Hyundai possibly being stolen from Sparta Highway by the Crossville airport. The deputy told the woman he would drive past the last known location and see if he could find her vehicle but was unable to.
When asked if she knew who could have stolen her vehicle, she said that she did not know. She said she had friends who knew the car was broken down. The vehicle’s identification and license plate number were entered into NCIC.

A few hours later, Deputy Holden Atkinson was dispatched to Henderson Circle about another theft from a vehicle. Upon arriving he met with the vehicle’s owner who said somebody had broken into the toolbox on the back of his truck and stolen some tools.
The total value of this tool set is estimated to be around $800.
The victim told the deputy that he believed his mother broke into the toolbox claiming that she was strung out on dope. The victim said he wanted to press charges on his mother for the theft but the deputy explained to him that without evidence of his mother being the perpetrator of the crime, no charges could be filed.
The victim said he would invest in some cameras to keep an eye on what is going on at his property while he is not home.

As of right now, no charges have been placed for either of these instances.
