TRAIN DERAILS NEAR WARTRACE; NONE INJURED

Multiple news outlets have confirmed that a CSX train derailment occurred early Tuesday morning around 7 a.m. near Wartrace, Tennessee, in Bedford County, prompting the temporary evacuation of approximately 50 homes. The incident involved four rail cars carrying denatured alcohol (a treated form of ethanol used as fuel or solvent), but fortunately, no leaks were reported, and there were no injuries. Two bedridden residents were safely assisted out of the evacuation zone. CSX Transportation is overseeing the cleanup efforts, with support from local agencies including the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office, Wartrace Fire Department, and state emergency teams.

The evacuation order has since been lifted, allowing residents to return home, though they are advised to stay indoors once there. Bugscuffle Road remains closed, and personnel will guide affected residents on accessing their properties. The main CSX line through areas like Bell Buckle, Wartrace, and Normandy is clear but with slower train speeds, which may lead to delays at crossings and traffic disruptions throughout the day—motorists are encouraged to avoid the area if possible. School buses may use alternate routes, potentially causing later student drop-offs. This remains a developing situation from January 20, 2026.
