TWO MORE CRASHES ON EASTBOUND I-40 CAUSING CONGESTION

Interstate 40 eastbound in eastern Tennessee is experiencing severe traffic disruptions due to two separate incidents occurring in close proximity along a heavily traveled corridor connecting Knoxville to Nashville.

The first event, a multi-vehicle crash reported at 1:58 PM Central Time in Roane County at mile marker 358.4—roughly near the Gallaher Road exit past Kingston—has blocked the right lane and right shoulder of the two-lane roadway, leading to immediate backups stretching several miles westward as emergency crews work to clear debris and investigate the collision.

Just eight miles farther east, in Loudon County near Lenoir City at mile marker 366.4—close to Buttermilk Road and the critical I-40/I-75 interchange known as “The Split”—a single-vehicle crash was reported at 2:28 PM, obstructing the left lane and left shoulder, further compounding delays as vehicles are forced into bottlenecked single-file traffic.
