TWO WORKERS TRAPPED IN MASSIVE TRENCH COLLAPSE AT BIG RIDGE STATE PARK
A trench collapse rescue operation is underway at Big Ridge State Park in Tennessee, where two people were reported trapped following a call received around 8:08 a.m. Maynardville Mayor Ty Blakely initially indicated involvement of a Hallsdale-Powell Utility District crew, though the utility district later denied any of their workers were involved.
The Paulette Volunteer Fire Department is leading the response, with assistance from the Knoxville Fire Department, Knox County Rescue Squad, Oak Ridge Fire Department, multiple vacuum trucks, a Lifestar helicopter, and Union County Sheriff’s Office deputies. A Knoxville Fire Department spokesperson described the trench as large and anticipated the complex rescue would take several hours.
This remains a developing story.
